D’Tigress crush Cameroon to book semifinal spot

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, cruised into the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket with a dominant 83–47 win over Cameroon in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The defending champions overcame a slow start to stamp their authority on the quarterfinal tie, extending their unbeaten run in Africa to 27 games since 2015.
Cameroon opened the game with a brief 4–0 lead, but Nigeria responded with intensity, closing the first quarter on an 8–0 run. By halftime, D’Tigress were up by 12 points.
The third quarter proved decisive. Nigeria unleashed a devastating 25–2 run, effectively ending the contest and exposing the gulf in quality between both sides.
Amy Okonkwo led the scoring with 18 points and six rebounds in under 19 minutes. Nicole Enabosi and Victoria Macaulay added 12 points each, while Elizabeth Balogun chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.
Team captain Sarah Ogoke came off the bench to hit a crucial three-pointer in the first half, helping swing momentum in Nigeria’s favour.
With the win, D’Tigress set up a high-stakes semifinal against Senegal on August 2 — a renewal of one of African basketball’s most intense rivalries.
Victory in the semifinal would move Nigeria a step closer to a record-extending fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and guarantee a place in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament.
