Driver Flee To Escape Angry Owner of Truck After Youths Burnt Down Vehicle

A tipper driver identified as Benedict Odianosen Marcelo Matthew is reportedly on the run to avoid the wrath of owner of the vehicle after angry youths in Benin allegedly burnt down his vehicle .

It will be recalled that the tipper driver who is a member of Edo State tipper drivers association St.Saviour chapter was in May 22, 2014 involved in multiple accidents along Sapele road when a vehicle driven by some community youths hit his truck which in turn collided with another vehicle.

An eye-witness account said that immediately the accident happened, the community youths pounced on the truck driver insisting he was using his truck to convey marijuana as it was discovered the truck was carrying some bags of marijuana.

The angry youths, it was said, destroyed the truck by setting it ablaze to the amazement of people present as the truck driver watched helplessly as his truck went up in flames.

It was however gathered that the owner of the truck Mr Edobor Osagie was furious with the driver when the driver in company of other drivers went for an on the spot assessment of the burnt truck and it was considered to be beyond repair.

The driver on several occasions prevailed on the owner to exercise patience with him as he seeks ways to replace the truck, it was understood .

However, trouble started when it was discovered that the driver was not forthcoming with the replacement of the burnt vehicle owing to its exorbitant price of procuring a new one .

It was further said that the owner of the truck mobilized thugs suspected to be Eiye Confraternity members to go after Benedict Odianosen Marcelo Matthew who several days after the accident had gone missing as his whereabouts remained unknown to anyone.

Suspected thugs were said to have searched for the fleeing driver in his elder brother’s house as he was earlier seeking refuge with him before his sudden disappearance from the community.

Meanwhile, confirmed report revealed that the suspected thugs, who destroyed his brother’s house after beating his elder brother up and leaving him with a broken leg, vowed to eliminate the fleeing driver whenever and wherever he was seen around as his whereabouts remain unknown.
