Don tasks Buhari, Governors on governance, insecurity

… Urges INEC to rejig voters’ register
President Muhammadu Buhari, state governors and other public office holders across the country have been urged to give Nigerians good governance in the ongoing effort to enhance politics of inclusiveness in the country.

Also, the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmud Yakubu has been charged to continually review voters’ register so as not to disenfranchise eligible Nigerians.
Professor Jide Timothy-Asobele, of the Department of French, Ibrahim Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, North Central Nigeria, who gave the charge, said: “An elected President of Nigeria should see himself as the president of all Nigerians and not that of his party loyalists. He or she should also see his/her election as an opportunity to improve the lots of all other states including the states controlled by his party.”
In his research paper entitled, “Nigeria at Independence on 1st October 1960 and France’s 50 years of instability: A comparative Study of Nation Building and paths to Nigeria’s Political Greatness,” Timothy-Asobele said among other things, that projects and programmes that could touch the lives of the ordinary people, such as MAMSA, National Orientation Agency, Better Life For Rural Women, should not only be revived, but be given more support to enhance the livelihood and survival of Nigerians, whom he regretted, are currently groaning under excruciating poverty, disease and squalor.”
He said the nation’s security chiefs and other agencies should now be more committed to thwarting security challenges facing the country, especially induced by Boko Haram, banditry and armed robberies, adding that, “There should be an end to social and political security, general insecurity of lives and properties. The present scenario of mistrust, suspicion and rancour among regional leaders, should end.”
According to the former Head, Department of European Languages, University of Lagos, effective training programmes should be enunciated for political office holders so as to enable them to deliver good democratic dividends to the people.

While also recommending that Nigerian children should “be given one day to play the role of the state governor or at the Federal Level, act as the role of the president of Nigeria in order to motivate them on effective national leadership, he said the vision of the nation’s founding fathers should always be kept alive through effective governance and economic prosperity.”
He also urged the universities and other research and educational institutions to raise their research bars for national and global developments.
