Delta earmarks 4,000 hectares of land for Gas Industrial Park Project

The Delta State government said it has earmarked 4,000 hectares of land for Gas Revolution Industrial Park (GRIP) Projects in Warri South West Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Mofe Pirah, the state Commissioner for Oil and Gas, who confirmed this to journalists yesterday in Asaba, said the investors had announced that the 4,000 hectares of land would be needed for the project, adding that the state government had only acquired 2,960 hectares.

He said that at a meeting with the representatives of 10 cluster communities in Warri North in continuation of the road map for the actualization of community engagement sessions with oil and gas producing communities in Delta South Senatorial District of the state, the project upon completion would provide  over five million jobs and appealed that there would be no need for rancour among the people over ownership of land, or employment space as the immediate communities cannot provide all that was required for the project. Pirah stated that the government and the people must provide the enabling environment for the project to come to fruition, warning against acts and actions capable of derailing the early completion of the project.

The commissioner disclosed that he was directed by the governor to meet with representatives of oil producing communities across the state on the need to help encourage and support the administration’s drive for the return of SPDC and other oil companies that left the state in the heat of hostilities, noting that the state government has met with the management of some of the multinationals and that they have agreed to return on the condition of safe environment to operate.

The commissioner commended the oil bearing communities in Warri North for always maintaining a high sense of decorum in their quest for better attention as regards the development of their communities.

Some of the representatives who spoke commended the state government for embarking on the visits, noting that it is in the interest of all stakeholders to support the drive for the return of the oil companies. They appealed for greater attention to the development of their areas.
