Customs raises the alarm as officer loses life in Kano

The Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Command has raised the alarm over what it called incessant attacks on its personnel in the course of duty. The Area Controller, Nasir Ahmed raises the alarm on Monday in a press statement signed and made available to news men by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Danbaba Isah. According to the statement, the operatives of the command have continued to come under unlawful attacks by smugglers and their criminal supporters in recent times. Ahmed revealed that, while on patrol on the 26th of January, a combined team of Customs officials including the Headquarters information patrol team, the Command Roving team ‘A’, the Patrol team ‘D’ Bichi axis and the intelligence unit came under attack along Gwammai Village, Kano. He said, criminal elements suspected to be smugglers attacked his men causing them serious injuries and vandalizing their vehicle after accusing them of causing an accident on the road a story the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident has denied. In another development, the Command also lost an officer who was hit by a fast speeding rice smuggler on the 31st of January while carrying out his lawful duty. Nasir, frowned at these lawless acts and call on parents and community leaders to call their wards to order as the Command henceforth, will not hesitate to use appropriate force to deal with such persons. He vowed that masterminds of the various attacks would be fished out and persecuted as any attempt to obstruct the Customs Officers from carrying out their statutory duty will be dealt with decisively.
