C’River reinforces no entry order at boundaries

The Cross River state government on Tuesday reinforced its no entry, no exit directive with neighbouring states in a bid to ensure a COVID-19 free state.

Governor Ben Ayade gave the directive while addressing security operatives and other support staff at the Gakem-Benue border on Tuesday in Gakem, Cross River state.
The governor, who was represented by Mr. Signor Idiege, commissioner for youth development and skills acquisition, said his administration’s only concern was to keep the state and her residents safe from COVID-19.
The state as of April 27 has yet to record an index case of COVID-19.

The governor had recalled his aides assigned to different boundary posts, except the Itu Bridge post, due to poor enforcement of the lockdown.
Ayade said that the efforts must be sustained and supported without compromise.
“Nobody irrespective of status will be allowed to leave or come into the state through the Gakem-Benue boundary or any other.
“Since all the states bordering Cross River state have cases of the coronavirus, there must be strict adherence to boundary lockdown and other safety measures to remain safe,” he said.
