COVID-19 positive lady absconds from isolation centre in Taraba

A lady, identified as Talatu Idris, who happened to be among the eight persons that tested positive to coronavirus pandemic in Taraba state, has escaped from the state’s isolation centre in Sibre, Ardo Kola Local Government Area of the state.

State Task Force Chairman on COVID-19, Dr. Innocent Vakkai, stated this at the weekend while briefing newsmen at the conference hall of the state Primary Health Care Development Agency in Jalingo, the state capital.

Dr. Vakkai, who doubles as the commissioner for health in Taraba state, said Talatu was among the 130 inter-state travellers from Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Ogun and Lagos states intercepted at the state borders and presently receiving treatment at one of the state isolation centres.

Worried by the unexpected action of Talatu, the chairman however, called on the people of the state to be vigilant, saying any person with any information on her whereabouts should report to the committee or the nearest police station.

He noted that the lady was already responding to treatment at the isolation centre, but regretted that she fled from the centre to an unknown destination.

“So far, we don’t know whether this lady has ran into the town of Jalingo or she has run to other community. We are calling on the people of state to report to the security agents if they see her.

“The state government has also made wearing of face masks compulsory during the two -day window allowed for human and vehicular movement,” he said.

According to Dr. Vakkai, apart from the purchase of ventilators by the state government the committee had also received two from the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

He further announced a donation of 100-bed capacity by Access Bank Plc at the NYSC Isolation Camp along Wukari Road, Sibre, Ardo Kola Local Gobernment Atea of the state.
