COVID-19: LG distributes safety kits to police, youths, Okada riders in Kogi

The Idah Local Government Council in Kogi has distributed safety kits to its workers, the police, youth councils and commercial motorcycle operators within the council area to curtail the spread of COVID-19.


Presenting the kits to the beneficiaries on Friday in Idah, the Director of Local Government (DLG), Mr Musa Ali, implored the residents to adhere strictly to the precautionary directives issued by the federal and state governments to curtail spread of the disease.

He said that the directives, including restriction of movement, social distancing, hand washing, wearing of face masks, application of alcohol-based hand sanitisers and prohibition of large gatherings, still remained the best measures to curtail the spread of the virus.


Ali also charged the Heads of Departments (HODs) in the local government to monitor the proper use of the materials, including bucket tabs, soap/liquid detergents and sanitisers by members of staff to avoid contracting the disease.


He enjoined other beneficiaries of the COVID-19 safety kits, including the police, the Local Government Youth Council and commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders), to use the materials for the intended purpose.


The DLG commended Gov. Yahaya Bello for being proactive by putting in place a team to prevent the spread of the disease and also, for according healthcare top priority in the state.

Ali assured the people of the council area that he would continue to keep them updated on how to avoid the spread of Coronavirus.


Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the council’s HOD, Education and Social Services, Malam Obeito Hassan, assured that the materials would be properly utilised to ensure safety of the people.


He said that the beneficiaries would also sensitise and educate their colleagues, households and neighbours on the importance of maintenance of good personal hygiene to keep COVID-19 away from the state.
