The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, who was speaking at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja, on Tuesday, said that the medical personnel tested negative for the virus, adding that the Ministry of Health is done with close monitoring of the team.

“As for the Chinese persons who came in, the tests have been done after their 14 days quarantine and all of them tested negative,” Ehanire said.

This is just as the PTF warned that COVID-19 remained potent, virulent and dangerous.

The PTF while reacting to directives from President Muhammadu Buhari to ease the lockdown in Ogun and Lagos states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja from Monday, May 4 cautioned Nigerians to be vigilant and careful as they embark on their daily activities.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, called for a collective responsibility to win the war against COVID-19.

He said: “Ladies and gentlemen, the relaxation of the lockdown is to enable us gradually return to our daily lives but in a moderated manner.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has permanently altered our ways of life and we must begin to learn how to adjust to this new reality.

“This relaxation does not in any way imply that the danger has passed.

“The virus is still potent, virulent and dangerous. We must remain very vigilant and careful. We must take responsibility for our actions”.

Earlier, the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said that about two million Nigerians are to be tested for COVID-19 in the next three months.

Dr. Ihekweazu said this was necessary in view of President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive for aggressive contact tracing, testing and treatment.

He said of the two million Nigerians, the NCDC projected at least fifty thousand people in each state to be tested.

The NCDC boss, who stressed that the goal was to reduce transmission of the virus, emphasised that there was need to avoid non-essential travels.
