Court remands man over alleged assault, breach of public peace

An Osun Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Thursday, remanded one Anu Afolabi, 21, in prison custody over alleged assault and breach of public peace.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb 10, 2017 around 12:00 pm at Afeki -Opa Area, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the accused attempted to commit felony to wit: assault and armed himself with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

He added that the accused also engaged himself in a public fight with one cult union known as “poison spirit” which led to great pandemonium in the area.

The prosecutor stated further that the offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 249 (d) and 509 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The plea of the accused was not taken by Magistrate Dorcas Ajiboye, but ordered for his remands at Ile-Ife prison custody.

Ajibiye adjourned the case to March 13, for hearing.
