Court remands labourer over alleged abduction of 16-year-old girl

An Osun Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Wednesday remanded one Lanus Joseph, 30, a labourer, over alleged abduction.

The Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 1, 2017 at Oke-Ogbo Area, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the accused abducted one Blessing Micheal, 16, to unknown destination.

He added that the offence was contrary to section 361 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to one-count charge of abduction.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, appealed for the bail of the accused in most Libra term, pledged that the accused would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate Dorcas Ajiboye granted the bail of the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety each in like sum.

Ajiboye added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction, be a blood relation and submit two recent passport photographs of the accused and sureties.

She stated further that the sureties should produce three years tax clearance as well as their addresses to be verify by court official.

But unfortunately, none of the accused relatives shown up to perfect bail, the accused therefore remanded in prison custody till perfection of the bail.

The case was adjourned to June 16, for hearing.
