Court remands fake prophet over alleged stealing members’ mobile phones

An Osun Magistrate’s Court sitting in Modakeke, on Wednesday, remanded a fake prophet, one Oluwaseun Osilewe, 32, over alleged stealing members’ mobile phones.

The Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 8, 2017 around 2:00 am at Celestial Church of Christ Alapata Area, Modakeke, in Ife Northeast LG
of Osun.

Abdullahi said that the accused broke and entered into the church to commit felony therein by stolen four mobile phones such as: Tecno 1701 handset, Samsung handset and one Infinix handset.

He added that other items stolen are: I phone, one power bankand phone charger, properties of Bukola Babatunde, Adeola Koledoye, Abayomi Elijah and Akeem Awojori respectively, total valued N340, 500.

According to him, the offence was contrary to section 383 and punishable under sections 390 (9), and 415 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to five-count-charge of commit felony, entrance, broken and stealing leveled against him.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adiereje, applied for the bail of the accused in most Libra term, promised that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

The prosecutor objected the bail of the accused on the ground that the police investigation is still on,for one of the phones stolen “IPhone” of N250, 000 was sold for N85,000 .

Abdullahi expressed further that the accused came from Lagos with no traceable address, presented himself as prophet to the above church.

He said that the accused was allowed to conduct night vigil prayer for the members of the church and after the programme and the members had slept, he started picking their handsets from their bags before he was
caught.

Magistrate Iyabo Salami granted the bail of the accused in the sum of N150, 000, with two sureties in like amount.

Salami added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction, presents certificate of three years tax clearance as well as produce credible form of identification.

She ordered for the remanded of accused in prison custody pending the perfection of the bail and adjourned the case to July 26, for mention.
