Council poll: Low turnout of voters will tnessed at Custom Quarters Polling Unit, Karu

The Council poll on Saturday witnessed low turnout of voter’s at the Custom Quarters polling unit, FHA Karu, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This is against the turnout experienced during the Presidential and National Assembly Election held two weeks ago.

At the reported unit where Daily Times carried out this investigation shows that at 9.00 am, voter’s were not seen but the INEC ad-hoc staff, National Youth Corp (NYSC) members.

One of the domestic observers, Nkechi Nzeribe who spoke to our correspondent said voters are trickling in unlike what was experienced during the earlier polls when the voters arrived even earlier than the INEC officials.

According to her, “It is too early to conclude that voters have given up on the electoral process though the enthusiasm appears to have died down.

“There is still time because the process continues till 2pm. It could be that they just want to avoid stampede. So, we have to wait till the end of voting to conclude that more people voted in the last election”.

While there was little or no vehicular traffic in the area, our correspondent reports that there was increased movement by residents on foot.

Some of the voters asserted that they would not participate in the elections claiming that winners were already known as their votes would not count

According to Ralph Eze, a trader at the Karu Market:”I am not sure I will vote again until I am sure that votes count in this country. See how we suffered for nothing the last time. For me, they should allow us go and do our business because to vote is not by force”
