Council of elders suspend chief priest as son escapes over sacrilegious act

The traditional council of elders in Uromi community in Esan Northeast local government area of Edo State have suspended the chief priest, High Chief Anthony Ikpotokin after his son Stanley Ikpotokin was reportedly caught in a sacrilegious act with another male in the palace.

A statement signed by the council of elders and made available to journalists in Benin City said Anthony Ikpotokin the Chief priest of Uromi community has been suspended indefinitely and his traditional title as mouthpiece of the gods and custodian of the community shrine stripped over the alleged role of his son and heir to office of Chief priest and custodian of the shrine, in a sacrilegious practice.

It will be recalled that Stanley Ikpotokin as heir to the office of the Chief priest who lived in the palace with his father, was secretly involved in homosexual practice with a relative of the royal family when he was allegedly caught in the act on 10th June 2023.

According to information made available, Stanley Ikpotokin who was next in line to succeed his father as the Chief priest and custodian of the community shrine was living in the palace with other senior palace chiefs in order to understand the custom and tradition of the community.

However, his secret involvement in the sacrilegious act instantly brought to an abrupt end his ambition of replacing his suspended father as it was earlier said that he was outrightly against the idea of heading the community shrine owing to his faith as a Christian.

Following his involvement in the sacrilegious practice of homosexual practice, Stanley Ikpotokin who was instantly taken into custody by palace guards in order to be offered in the spiritual cleansing of the desecration in the community, was said to have escaped from custody.

Meanwhile, the statement from the traditional council of elders further urged any member of the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing Stanley Ikpotokin to report at a nearby police station or come forward to palace in Uromi.
