Chairman of Agege Local Government, Ganiyu Egunjobi, has stressed the need for government at all levels to practice inclusive governance in order to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

Speaking at the enlarged stakeholders meeting on socio-economic growth where he invited representatives of all residents in the local government area, the council boss said the reason for the meeting is to know the minds of people, what they actually want so as to avoid misplaced priorities.

Egunjobi said in making Lagos a mega city, there is need for the cooperation of people especially in paying their dues so that money realised can be judiciously used.

“We have enetered into an agreement with the people that those who fail to pay their dues will have their shops and stores locked up because it is the money we get from their taxes that governmentr will use to provide their needs”, he said.

He also urged those with dilapidated structures to approach the government for reconstructure before those buildings collapse adding that failure to comply with the directive will lead to taking over by the State government.

“Owners of those buildings have been given ultimatum of 21 days which will elapse on October 25, 2017 and failure to comply will lead to seizure of the properties by the State government in order to avoid loss of lives and properties,” he said.

Egunjobi also harped on cleaner environment adding that the local government has put in place measure to ensure this before the state government kicks off the cleaner Lagos project.

“During our electioneering campaign we promised the people inclusive governmnet that is to say before we embvark on any project we will call on them so as to avoid misplaced priority”, he said.

He also urged hawkers on the streets to move back from the roads in order to give room for free flow of traffic while sensitising them to ensure cleaner environment in order to avoid diseases.

“We have set up four collection centres to park the dirt so we encourage people to dump their wastes their and the local government will collect them before the Cleaner Lagos initiative by the State Ministry of Environment takes off,” he said.

On youth unemployment, Egunjobi advised parents to encourage their children to take advantage of the vocational centres in the Local government and acquire skills for self employment.

In his own view, leader of the legislative arm of the local government, Mr. Kola Anigbajumo, said the arm has planned to work hand in hand with the executive to move Agege forward adding that the legislators have planned to visit all the constituencies to know their needs and bring back repots to the executive for implementation.
