We are committed to equitable sharing of public position – FCC
The Commissioner representing Ekiti State, in the Federal Character Commission, FCC, Comrade Bunmi Ojo, has said that the Federal Government is committed to promoting equitable distribution of Nigeria’s resources irrespective of ethnicity or religious backgrounds in the interest of the country.
Ojo made the remarks at a lecture he delivered on: “National Integration and Socio -Economic Development: Role of the Federal Character Commission” at a monthly media forum of the Nigerian Television Authority , NTA, NUJ forum in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.
The Federal commissioner noted that the commission places high premium on quota system through equitable sharing of public positions and socio-economic amenities among the states of the federation to promote various ethnic groups for rapid development.
According to him, one of the priority of the commission is to ensure that every state in the country have minimum of 2.5 percent and maximum of 3 percent in manpower distribution to ensure that no state is short-changed in the federal sharing of resources for enhanced national integration and socio-economic growth of the country.
He further explained that the policy of the Federal Character Commission, FCC, also allows indigene of one state to be employed in federal establishment in other state, hence people can use the advantage of such to fill the slots meant for their states.
He pointed out the challenges of the commission to include lack of cooperation from some state government in effectively carrying out the commission’s assignments, saying adequate support by various state government will go a long way in achieving the mandates of the commission for the betterment of the country.
