Closure of OPM Free Hospital: AWLA Condemns Aluu Community
The African Women Lawyers Association AWLA has condemned what it calls the crass insensitivity of Aluu community to the plight of vulnerable women that are benefitting from the OPM FREE SPECIALIST HOSPITAL located in their community. The group also said it will not hesitate to take legal action against the community if the life of any beneficiary of the free hospital is exposed to danger as a result of their extortionist tendency.

The Association made the statement through one of it’s executive council members Aganaba Priye while reacting to a statement credited to the General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministries OPM Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere in Port Harcourt where he told newsmen that the Free Hospital has been shut down as a result of the communities insistence that the hospital must pay levies to them.

AWLA according to the statement, said the stance of the community clearly shows that there are people in this present world who are still living in hobbessian state of life. It said the community ought to be grateful to the ministry for setting up facilities that are bettering the lives of the people and also placing the community as a hub for philanthropic activities in the state.
“When all the positive contributions of the church is carefully studied within the community, it is highly disheartening that leaders of the community can have the temerity to engage in such shameful extortionist tendency” the statement said.
The association also urged the government to call the leaders of the community to order for the sake of the very vulnerable women whose lives will be exposed to danger as a result of the closure. It said considering the rising cases of Covid 19 in the state, women should not be allowed to face such level of insensitivity no matter what because the hospital has benefited many poor pregnant women who probably would have died as a result of lack of money.
