CBN Tennis: Lawal, Agugbom reach Round of 16

Old war horse, Shehu Lawal, Tuesday, defeated hard-fighting Isaac Attah 6-4, 6-1 in one of the second round matches of the ongoing 39th Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Tournament to move into the Round of 16 games.
Having won the first set 6-4, the three-time champion 2003, 2004 and 2007 combined experience and skill to overpower a more vibrant Isaac Attah 6-1 in the second set at the Centre Court of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
It was also a good day for Christopher Bulus who booked his Round of 16 ticket with a victory over Jonah Samuel whom he stopped at 6-4, 6-2.
Never say die, Chinonso Madueke who finished as runner-up in 2011 when he lost narrowly to Henry Atseye in the final, also advanced to the Round of 16 by beating Michael 6-2, 6-3 to move on. Sunday Emmanuel also advanced by beating Timibra Godgift 6-2, 6-3.
Women’s top seed, Christy Agugbom emerged victorious following her triumph 6-1, 6-0 retired over Oluchi Ozurumba, while Bukola Olowu outclassed Ramota Odeyemi 6-3, 6-1 to advance as well.
Actions were also recorded in the women’s doubles event as the pair of Airhunwunde Osareimen and Angel Mcleod combined beautifully to stop the pair of Rachael Adunoye and Kadijat Salami 6-2, 6-0.
More matches will be decided today in the men and women singles Round of 16 games, as well as the doubles quarters final games.
