Catholic Bishop donates items, cash to 1,000 indigents in Awka

The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has donated cash and food items to no fewer than 1, 000 indigents, aged and people with disabilities to mark the Easter.

Distributing the items on Saturday in Awka, Ezeokafor said the gesture was an opportunity to share with the less-privileged and to show them love.

He called on affluent persons in the society to render similar humanitarian services.

The bishop urged the beneficiaries not to see their condition as an opportunity to engage in unlawful acts.

Ezeokafor implored the beneficiaries to always give thanks to God in spite of their condition, warning against indolence and laziness.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the beneficiaries, whose joy knew no bound, praised the bishop for the gesture.

“This is not the first time the Church is doing this as we normally gather once in a month to receive spiritual and material blessings from the Bishop.

“We are grateful to the bishop for sustaining the gesture over the years.

“We pray to God to give him good health and divine direction to continue the good works,” a beneficiary, Mrs Nneka Ezeome said.

Some of the items distributed to the beneficiaries drawn from different parts of the state included clothes, yam, beans, rice, garri, coconut, onions and cash, among others. (NAN)
