Buhari, Saraki, others mourn as former IGP Coomassie passes on

A former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Coomassie, has died. Coomassie died on Thursday after battling with a protracted ailment.
His brother, Ahmad Muntaqa Coomasie, confirmed the passage of the former IGP, saying that his elder brother died at about 7pm at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Katsina.
The Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), Jimoh Moshood, who also confirmed Coomassie’s death, said the former IGP is a dedicated officer who contributed immensely to the Force.
Moshood also conveyed the condolences of the IGP Ibrahim Idris to the family of the deceased.
The ex-Police boss was born in Katsina in 1946 and rose through the ranks to become the IGP in 1993, taking over from Aliyu Attah.
The late Coomassie was a classmate of President Muhammadu Buhari at the old Katsina College.
He retired from service at the end of military dispensation in 1999 and thereafter engaged in various community services.
