Buhari is the champion of the COVID-19 response, ECOWAS authority says

The presidents of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have appointed President Muhammadu Buhari as the Champion of the COVID-19 response’ in West Africa.

Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant on New Media to Buhari, made this announcement on Thursday on his verified twitter handle.

Ahmad stated, “JUST IN: Presidents of West African countries under the aegis of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government have appointed President @MBuhari.”
He also added that Buhari was appointed via a teleconferencing Extraordinary ECOWAS Summit which was held under the Chairmanship of H.E. Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger.
He stated, “President @MBuhari’s appointment as Champion of the COVID-19 response, by the ECOWAS Leaders took place today at the Extraordinary ECOWAS Summit on COVID-19 which was held via teleconferencing under the Chairmanship of H.E. Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger,”
