BSC/HND Dichotomy: Fed Poly Bida Alumni urges Buhari to sign Bill into law

The Federal Polytechnic Bida Alumni Association has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the BSC/HND Dichotomy Bill into law.

Dr Koce Henry, National President of the association, made the call at the end of the third delegate meeting of the Alumni, on Sunday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Senate on June 3, passed a Bill that seeks to end discrimination between first degree graduates from universities and Higher National Diploma (HND) holders from polytechnics for the purpose of employment in the country.

Henry lauded the president for signing into law the Polytechnic Act which brought about the Alumni being represented in the council.

He also urged the National Assembly to speed up the passing of the Polytechnic Commission Bill pending before it.

Henry said that the Alumni had been able to intervene in the school in the area of transportation by providing tricycles to ease movement of the students.

According to him, the Alumni will soon provide busses to enhance transportation services in the campus and the host communities.

Henry further appealed to the Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnic (ASUP), to cooperate with the Rector of the school towards making it the best institution in the country.

“We appeal to the ASUP to bring to the bearest minimum the number of frictions the union is having with the rector,” he said.

The Alumni, he said, believed in the indivisibility of Nigeria, and called on the President to arrest the security challenges in the country by involving retired military personnel to share ideas that would assist in addressing the problem.

The delegate to the meeting also extended the tenure of the executives by two years while also expanding their number to eight.
