Boko Haram Attack: Over N50m spent to renovate Nyanya Motor Park -Consultant

Six years after the closure of Nyanya temporary motor park situated at the outskirt of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, consultant to the management of the damaged park where many souls were lost, has told Daily Times that it has spent over N50 million to put the park in a proper shape for normal operation to commence.

The consultant, Alhaji Isiaka Nagode, said this during the official reopening of the park on Tuesday in Abuja.

Iagode, who is also the chief executive officer of Isiaka Nagode Enterprises, stressed that in order to bring the destroyed park to proper operation, the company reached an agreement with the Federal Capital Territory Administration for the renovation project which gulped N50million.

The money, according to him, was expended on the purchase of CCTV cameras, fencing of the park as well as employment of security personnel.

Commenting further on the project, he said it was consummated under a public private partnership agreement.

He said that the sharing formulae stand at 70/30 per cent. The FCT administration, he revealed, will get 70 percent while his company gets 30percent irrespective of operational costs.

In determining the revenue generation base, Iagode noted that ticket sales would form the block generation of revenue while other businesses such as bukertaria and other articles within the park also can add to the source of revenue generation.

While speaking earlier, the Acting Secretary of Transportation Secretariat, Alhaji Abdulramid Sulaimain Abdulraman, stated that since the closure of the terminal, commuters from the axis have been subjected to untold hardship as a result of absence of a clearly defined terminal.

He stressed that not only that the commuters board vehicles along the road thereby exposing them to further threat to their lives, the vicinity around the bombed terminal where commuters converge to board vehicles was always congested thereby causing heavy vehicular gridlocks.

“The closure of the terminal also impacted negatively on the Terminal Operator Manager, M/S Baba Nagode, who was out of operation all these while and equally spent substantial amount in rebuilding this site.

“The journey to the reopening of this terminal was tortuous. Various security meetings were held to determine the various implications or otherwise of its reopening. I’m happy to announce to you the various security meetings favored the reopening and that’s what we are here to do this afternoon.”
