BOI, NBTE launches youth vocational skills acquisition scheme
Bank of Industry in partnership with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has launched a vocational skills competition to support and promote skills acquisition among youths in the country.
The bank stated this in a statement, adding that its targeted participants are top graduating students of NBTE-accredited vocational enterprise institutions. “They will showcase their final-year projects and demonstrate the skills involved in their execution. Winners will benefit from prizes aimed at further developing and enhancing their skills and career paths. The eligible vocational courses for the competition include automotive mechatronics/mechanic, carpentry and joinery, fashion design, electrical and electronics, painting and tiling, plumbing and fittings, as well as welding and fabrication.
“Regional competitions will take place in Kaduna and Lagos on February 13th, 2016 and February 19th, 2016 respectively, while the grand finale will be held in Abuja on 19th March, 2016. “A panel of judges made up of seasoned professionals has been selected to evaluate the nominated candidates and select the winners in each vocational field. Prizes to be won include modern vocational work tools, access to small business loans and placement/internship with BoI customers,” the bank stated.
The bank explained that as Nigeria seeks to become a more diversified economy, vocational skills development must receive greater attention across various fields, adding that the competition is one of the initiatives of the Bank of Industry towards supporting and promoting the nation’s industrial sector through the development of vocational skills.
