Bode Maxwell-Akinyemi Selected As Delegate For The Climate Reality Leadership Training In The US

In an inspiring journey of dedication, leadership and move towards global advocacy, Bode Maxwell-Akinyemi, 28, a distinguished Global Shaper and the General Secretary of the Lagos Hub, has been selected to attend the prestigious Climate Reality Leadership Training in New York City from April 12-14, 2024. This significant event, led by former US Vice President and Nobel laureate Al Gore, aims to equip a new generation of climate leaders with the necessary tools and knowledge to drive meaningful environmental change.

As a core member of the Global Shapers Lagos Hub team, Bode played a pivotal role in bringing the Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training to Lagos, demonstrating his commitment to fostering local climate action. His selection for the New York training marks a significant milestone in his journey, providing him with an unparalleled opportunity to enhance his leadership skills and deepen his impact on climate initiatives.

The Climate Reality Leadership Training in New York City will see Bode joining a global network of nearly 50,000 Climate Reality Leaders. Over the course of three days, participants will engage in interactive sessions, hear from leading industry experts, and attend various events and activities organized by Global Shapers. This immersive experience is designed to inspire and prepare attendees to lead in a world increasingly shaped by climate change.

A highlight of Bode’s participation was his role in the Youth Showcase of local climate projects and campaigns during the General Reception on April 13. Representing the Lagos Hub, Bode showcased the project “The West Africa Climate Reality Leadership Satellite Training in Lagos.”

Through a compelling poster presentation, alongside other delegates, he highlighted the project’s community engagement, strategic partnerships, and successful sessions with external speakers. This showcase provided an invaluable platform to publicize the Lagos Hub’s initiatives and foster dialogue with other attendees.

The Climate Reality Leadership Corps, founded on the belief that everyday people can lead the fight against climate change, traces its origins back to 2006. It began with 50 advocates who joined Vice President Gore in Nashville, Tennessee, inspired by his Academy Award-winning film “An Inconvenient Truth.” Today, the program has grown into a vast network of advocates working together for bold and just climate solutions across the globe.

Bode’s journey to New York was made possible by the support of the World Economic Forum with an official letter that emphasized the organization’s commitment to improving the state of the world through public-private cooperation and global citizenship.

As Bode Maxwell-Akinyemi returns to Lagos, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge, new connections, and a strengthened resolve to drive climate action. His participation in the Climate Reality Leadership Training is not just a personal achievement but a beacon of hope and inspiration for his community. It highlights the critical role that young leaders play in shaping a sustainable future for all.

Bode’s story exemplifies the power of individual commitment and collective action in the fight against climate change. His leadership within the Global Shapers Community and his ongoing efforts to foster local climate initiatives demonstrate that together, we can create a world where both people and the planet thrive.
