Blackout Alert: Ikeja, Eko DisCos warn of 25-day power disruption over grid repairs

Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company have announced a 25-day power supply disruption due to scheduled maintenance on a major transmission line.
In separate notices shared via their social media platforms, the DisCos said the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will carry out maintenance on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line from July 28 to August 21, 2025, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm daily.
“During this period, customers may experience intermittent power supply and load shedding across our network due to the planned TCN outage,” Ikeja Electric said.
The announcement has triggered public backlash, with some Nigerians questioning the implications for customers on premium electricity bands.
“Are you also going to be downgrading all the affected areas from Band A to Band D or E for the duration of your one-month outage? Or are your paying customers supposed to bear the cost of the one-month long outage?” one user asked on X.
Eko DisCo, in its own notice, acknowledged the likely discomfort the outage would bring but said the maintenance is necessary to ensure long-term grid stability.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause,” the company said, urging customers to prepare for the prolonged disruption.
The outage, though temporary, is expected to impact homes, businesses, and essential services across Lagos. The DisCos have encouraged customers to explore alternative power sources during the period.
