Betrayal and Bloodshed: Mrs Omoru Killed After Son’s Secret Religious Conversion
Ahmed Shehu, Kaduna
In a harrowing act of violence, Mrs Mabel Omoru, the mother of Ibrahim Omoru, was brutally murdered yesterday, 5th September, 2024 after she refused to disclose her son’s whereabouts to those determined to return him to Nigeria to face justice. Her killing has left her family devastated and plunged the entire Southern Kaduna Muslim Community into profound grief and outrage.
This tragedy is rooted in Ibrahim Omoru’s shocking betrayal of the trust and faith his community had placed in him. Sponsored by the Southern Kaduna Muslim Community Forum to study in the UK, Ibrahim violated the solemn agreement underpinning his sponsorship.
Within months of his arrival abroad, he secretly converted to Christianity with his wife a scheme they orchestrated to exploit the community’s generosity as a means to relocate permanently, abandoning the Islamic faith and severing ties with those who invested in his future.
This deliberate betrayal has brought immeasurable shame and dishonor upon the Southern Kaduna Muslim Community and his own family. His father, who had stood as his guarantor, has now granted full authority to community leaders to do everything necessary to track him down and ensure he faces the consequences under Islamic law where fraud, apostasy, and blasphemy are severe offences punishable by death under Sharia law.
Ibrahim’s current whereabouts remain unknown as he continues to hide somewhere in the UK under a new Christian identity, leaving his family to bear the devastating consequences of his deceit including the tragic and senseless loss of his mother, who paid the ultimate price for protecting him.
Meanwhile, the wider Muslim community throughout Nigeria is actively organizing a formal petition demanding Ibrahim’s deportation so that he may be brought back to answer for his betrayal and the pain it has caused, including his mother’s untimely death.
Once regarded as a future source of honor with promises to return home after his studies and join the army, bringing respect and pride to his people. Ibrahim has instead disgraced his heritage, broken his vows, and turned his back on the faith that nurtured him.
His family has now publicly disowned him, vowing their full support for all lawful actions to ensure he is brought back to face justice and to restore the dignity of the community and the cherished memory of his late mother, Mrs Mabel Omoru.
