Benue to access $8m World Bank grant, says planning commission

Benue state government is to access $8million grant from the World Bank for scoring full marks in the physical transparency and accountability policy of the bank.

Following this, officials of the bank would soon arrive the state to carry out physical verifications on the various sectors in which the state has earned the rating.

Director General of the Benue state Planning Commission, Dr. Samuel Unom, who spoke in Makurdi over the weekend, maintained that the Governor Samuel Ortom administration is working tirelessly to woo back most of the development partners who left the state due to non -payment of counterpart funds.

He stressed that it is in that regard that the state government led a high powered delegation to Abuja to discuss with officials of the bank during which he shared his administration’s development vision with them.

The director general emphasize that the task of developing Benue state lies in the hands of all citizens and appealed to all to key into the vision of the governor in transforming the state in all sectors.

Unom, who is a development specialist, noted that the lack of appropriate planning is one of the challenges in the actualization of development in the country and sued for an alternate plan in all policies and programmes of government.
