Benue State Government rejects call to repeal open grazing prohibition law

The Benue State Government has rejected the recent call by the Miyetti Allah kautal hore socio-cultural organization for the ban of its ranches establishment and open grazing prohibition law which it duly enacted since 2017.

State Governor Samuel Ortom who made this known in Makurdi the state capital disclosed this in Makurdi the State capital says the State will never contemplate an act that will be detrimental to its residents.

The anti-open grazing and provision for ranches establishment law enacted by the Benue State government in 2017 have continued to generate mixed reaction with the Miyetti Allah Katau hore socio-cultural organization not letting go.

State Governor Samuel Ortom vowed to fight till the end in defence of his people and insist that those unwilling to obey the law will be apprehended and convicted.

Ortom maintained that the law is not discriminatory and is in the interest of both the herder and farmer.

Hundreds of thousands remain displaced in shelters across the State as a result of the attacks by suspected herders making the chief executive firm on his decision to regulate movement of herders.
