Bayelsa APC crisis: Legacy Party leaders indict Sylva, pleads for peace

Members of the Legacy Party of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State have waded into the current infighting rocking the Bayelsa Chapter of the party, just as they indicted former state governor and candidate of the APC in the last December governorship election Chief Timipre Sylva for what they described as his overbearing attitude.

Speaking with newsmen at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja, leader of the delegation, former running mate to gubernatorial candidate in the Bayelsa 2011 poll, Nalaguso Chris Alagoa said the current brawl in Bayelsa APC is a fight between the party and Sylva whom they accused of allegedly trading with the party’s slots.

Alagoa said:  “what is happening in Bayelsa State is not a fight between the chairman of the party, Chief Tiwei Orurumighe and leader, Sylva, its not so. It is a struggle of the party against one man who in his wisdom thinks he will trade with what we have achieved.

The Legacy Party members however, said they are not after furthering the crisis in the Bayelsa chapter of the party, rather, they are asking for dialogue to give room for those who have worked for the party to reap the fruits of their labour.

They drew the attention of the National leadership to the fact that the leadership of Comrade Tiwei is appreciated and accepted in all the nook and crannies of Bayelsa.

His words: “We know whoever is wearing the shoe knows where it pains him, that all the Ward Chairmen are with the chairman of the party, six of the local government chairmen out of eight, we have eight local government in Bayelsa state, six are with the chairman”.

He added that the state chairman is not fighting a personal fight, but the course of the Bayelsa State APC and as such, members of the legacy parties are aligning themselves with him.

The party said Sylva was not on ground in Bayelsa, but due to his influence as a former governor, he was made the APC leader in Bayelsa.

Earlier on, APC Local Government Chairmen Forum and the Ward Chairmen forum spoke on the crisis even as they asked for peaceful resolution of the crisis in the interest of the party.

The group also pledged their loyalty for the party under the chairmanship of Tiwei promising not to allow the crisis make them sabotage the governorship tussle at the Tribunal.
