Bauchi seeks intervention on maternal mortality from Nigerians in Diaspora

The Bauchi state government has called on Nigerians living outside the country to intervene on issues of Maternal Mortality in the state.

The State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar who made the call when the Nigerian in Diaspora paid him a courtesy visit in Bauchi said, “The state needs much intervention and partnership to reduce high rate of maternal mortality, improved education system, Agricultural development and viable tourism in the state”.

He added that, “the state have been recording high mortality rate, school drop outs and influx of internally display Persons (IDPs) that increases population of the citizens in the state.

“Bauchi’s population has increased from about a million people to close to 6.8 million in 2015. The population of Bauchi is estimated to be close to 7.3 million.

The governor while stressing that the state government recognises the need to improve access to vital resources such as education, healthcare and employment opportunities noted that facilities are overstretched as a result of the growth in population within the last few years.

“Therefore population of the youth would have implications on future socioeconomic development as many of the youth are unemployed.

“We need more interventions in the Education, Agriculture and tourism sectors to boost our economy and provide employment opportunities in the state”, he said.

Governor Abubakar who said his administration has done well in all sectors of the economy, especially health and education pointed out that, “that is why we are appealing to investors to come and invest in the state, the enabling environment has already been created for prosperous growth of all kind of business”.

In a comment, the leader of the delegation, Mrs Abike Dabiri who is also a Senior Special Assistant to President Mohammadu Buhari on Diaspora said they were in Bauchi to partner with the state government on developmental issues and to trace the roots of some of the African Americans.
