The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Bauchi State Chapter has expressed its deep disappointment and loss of confidence in the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) ahead of the today’s local government election in the state.

According to the party, it is glaring that the state electoral commission has shown insincerity, lack of commitment, and apparent bias towards the state’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PRP noted that the local government elections scheduled to hold today across all the local government areas in the state is likely to be neither fair nor credible.

Bauchi State Secretary of PRP, Hon. Abdulazeez Haruna in a statement made available to the Daily Times yesterday said the party is concerned “that BASIEC appears to be dancing to the tune of the PDP, undermining the democratic process and compromising the integrity of the electoral institution.”

The party urged the PDP-led administration in Bauchi State to recall that they were elected to power through the same democratic process and should not use their position to undermine our democratic institutions.

The PRP reminds the ruling party that what goes around always comes around, and karma does not forget or forgive.

“We caution them to prepare their minds for the consequences of their actions, as Bauchi State citizens are watching and will pay them in commensurate proportion at the right time.

“We urge the people of Bauchi State to remain vigilant and not to be swayed by the commission’s attempts to manipulate the electoral process.

“We also call on the BASIEC to take immediate steps to restore confidence in its impartiality and commitment to free and fair elections as the electoral banditry perpetuated by the commission in 2020 continues to haunt the collective memory of Bauchi State citizens, remaining an unforgettable and unforgivable affront,” the party said.

According to Haruna, the PRP reaffirmed its commitment to promoting democracy, accountability, and good governance in Bauchi State.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take necessary steps to ensure that the rights of all citizens are protected,” he said.
