Samuel Luka, Bauchi

Ahead the 23 February Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bauchi State said it has begun sorting the sensitive materials for distribution to the 20 Local Government areas of the state. The Acting Head of Department, Voter Education and Public Enlightenment of the Commission, Ahmed Waziri, told newsmen in an interview with journalists on Wednesday at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bauchi Branch. He said all the sensitive materials for the state have been received and will be distributed across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state on Thursday (today). Waziri said, “We are here with all the electoral officers and political parties and what we are doing here is that we are sorting out the sensitive materials based on the local government areas. What we have are the sensitive materials including the ballot papers and the result sheets. All the materials are intact”. “We are sorting out the materials to be on a safer side to be sure of what we have. We are doing that based on the 20 local government areas in Bauchi State,” he added. According to Waziri, each electoral officer is at the CBN with the number of registered eligible voters in his area and will get the required number of ballot papers for the elections based on that. He said after the sorting out, all the sensitive materials will first be shared to the local government areas that are the farthest so that they can get to those areas in good time. Waziri said that the Bauchi office of INEC received a directive from the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja to sort out and distribute the materials between Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st February to all the Local Government areas of the state. He expressed optimism that all the sensitive and non-sensitive materials will be distributed to the LGAs in good time.
