Bauchi, Benue, Gombe, Plateau to get free 109,000 meters – Jos DisCo

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company under the umbrella of Jos DisCo, has said Band A customers in its four franchise states of Bauchi, Benue, Gombe and Plateau will get a free 109, 000 meters installed for effective service delivery as well as bridging the metering gap.

The company said the effort comes under a scheme codenamed, Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP).

It says Jos, hosting the headquarters of the energy company will be the first beneficiary of the metering programme reiterating that only Band A customers are penciled down as beneficiaries.

“The exercise will focus strictly on providing meters for existing unmetered customers and replacing faulty meters only on Band A Feeders”, the Acting Head, Corporate Communications JED, Saratu Dauda, stated in a statement.

She said the scheme will not cover new connections as all new connections must apply through the Meter Asset Provider (MAP), Scheme and no direct connection on Band A feeders will be allowed.

Dauda warned customers not to pay money to any staff of the company for the installation, as it contravenes the company’s policy.

“JED emphasizes that the DISREP meters are completely free. Customers are strongly advised not to make any payments to staff or agents for meters or installations.

“Any customer who makes such payments does so at their own risk, as the company will not be liable for any losses incurred. Fraud-related complaints should be reported, with evidence to our communication channels”, she said.

Information gathered indicates that the new prepaid meters are embedded with advanced technology to enhance efficiency, security, and transparency.

The JED Spokesperson continued: “In line with regulatory requirements, customers benefiting from the DISREP Metering Scheme are required to visit the nearest JED Plc office after installation to validate their debt profile.

“They will also be eligible for discount offers under the ongoing Debt Validation and Discount Promo”, she said.

Dauda encouraged customers to lodge their complaints to the customer care of the company or visit JED website for any update.

“For complaints or further clarifications, customers are encouraged to visit any JED Plc Customer Care Centre. Regular updates on the DISREP Metering Scheme will be shared via the company’s official social media platforms and website: www.jedplc.com”, she said.
