Bala blames COVID- 19 pandemic for non- conduct of LG election

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has attributed the inability of his administration to conduct the local government election as promised, to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bala stated this on Sunday during the swearing-in ceremony of four caretaker committee chairmen of Darazo, Kirfi, Tafawa Balewa and Ningi Local Government Areas of the state.

He said his administration was fully prepared to conduct local government election as soon as the incident of COVID-19 is over so that democracy can be deepened at the grassroot level.

“COVID-19 pandemic halted the conduct of the local government election, but I can assure you that my administration is ever ready to conduct the elections,” Bala said.

The governor said his government is set to produce 10 million face masks for health workers, students, teachers and the most vulnerable in the state as part of strategies to control the spread of COVID-19 disease.

Bala pledged to release funds for the procurement of face masks for distribution to communities, as well as ensure that the face masks reaches the most vulnerable in the society.

“On our own partz I have approved the production of 10 million face masks for distribution to various groups and associations in the state,” the governor added.

He advised them to carry all and sundry along in the running of the day-to-day activities of their respective local government areas.

The four caretaker committee chairmen were sworn -in by the etate Chief Judge, Justice Talatu Umar at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi.

They include Alhaji Saleh Nasaru, Alhaji Garba Barra, Alhaji Abbass Aliyu and Mr. Daniel Mazadu of Ningi, Kirfi, Darazo and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas respectively.
