Atobatele memorial tourney ends in Lagos

A football competition organised in memory of late Corps member, Micheal Babatunde Atobatele has been concluded in Lagos.
The one-day event which attracted his family members, old school mates, friends and colleagues, saw students of his alma matter play a memorial match in his honour.
Atobatele who had his primary education at Mind Builders Nursery and Primary School Omole Phase 11 and his secondary school at Dansol High School, Agidingbi, before traveling abroad for his University education died September 11, 2016,during his service year ,few months to his 22nd birthday.
In the football match tagged “MBA Cup”, decided at the play ground of Mind Builders School, Dansol High School handled by ex- international Brenda Alada, came from a goal down to defeat their opponent, Mind Builders High School, Alausa Ikeja 2-1.
Presenting trophies and medals to the participating schools, mother of the deceased, Princess Oluwatoyin Atobatele described her late son as a peaceful and easy going person who will be missed by her family and friends for a very long time.
According to her, the family decided to organise the competition to remember a son who died in his prime while serving his father land, noting that it will be an annual event.
“Atobatele was a peaceful young man with lot of promises who died at a very young age after a brief illness and we decided to institute the memorial match to immortalise him because the vacuum he left will be too difficult to fill.
“The competition will be an annual event and from the next edition and we intend to invite many schools with the winner of the maiden edition getting automatic qualification for the next edition,” she explained.
Highlights of the tournament were a parade by members of the National Youth Service Corps and a novelty match by his friends.
