Army boss warns against illegal mining in Plateau

Community leaders representing various village districts within Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State on Thursday solicited the vigilance of security personnel in ensuring that tourist locations within their communities are adequately secured in other to boost tourism.
The appeal was made when the Commander, Special Task Force (STF), in Plateau State, Major General Nicholas Rogers, visited Kura Falls, a tourist heaven in Barkin-Ladi LGA.
The village heads who assembled in Kurra falls to receive the STF Commander, stressed that the incessant clash between farmers and herdsmen has hitherto brought a lot of security pressure
in the general area.
While expressing appreciation with the effort of the Army so far in maintaining peace also appealed for sustainable policing of the area.
Responding, Rogers urged them to continue to be their brothers’ keepers as his Command will continue to do everything within its power to ensure that the current peace being enjoyed in Plateau is sustained.
Consequently, addressing troops in Wase LGA, he tasked them to shun involvement in illegal Mining activities as any soldier caught will be dealt with.
During a visit to the Emir of Wase’s Palace, HRH Alh. Dr. Muhammadu Sambo Haruna, revealed the high rate of illegal Mining activities.
The Emir who was represented by the Waziri of Wase, Mamuda Badamasi, called on the Commander to step up security within the province to fight the criminal elements amongst them.
The Miners also appealed to the STF boss to help secure the area against criminals who carts away their products.
