Army Boss Warn Soldiers To Stay Away From Politics
The Army boss in-charge of the Special Task Force (STF), mandated to restore peace in Plateau State, Major General Rogers Nicholas, has charged soldiers under his command not to get themselves involved in politics as it negates the core mandate of the military.
Nicholas stated this on Tuesday while addressing troops at Bokkos Local Government Council, the home of the slain Plateau first class Chief, Lazarus Agai, whom was killed by alleged Fulani herdsmen, three months ago.
Speaking with the Management Committee Chairman in Bokkos, Hon. Luka Makut Bwoi, the STF boss said that the visit
to the area is aimed at foiling any anticipated attack that might occur between farmers and herdsmen, especially now that the dry season is at hand.
His words, “we are here because we anticipate there might be clashes between farmers and herdsmen especially now that the dry season is here, so we are going round to sensitize people on the need to live peacefully with one another, because that is the only way meaningful development will thrive”, he said.
Responding, the LG Chairman said the effort of the STF has brought peace to the community, especially during the death of the Plateau first class chief.
He said the major challenge being faced in some communities in Bokkos, is that of the herdsmen, but said continuous synergy with the STF will consolidate the peace building process.
Though he noted that people are still being silently killed in Sha Community within Bokkos, but express optimism that the gallant effort of the STF will eventually eradicate the remaining skirmishes of killings.
however, as part of his movement to access situation within the troubled zones on the Plateau, Gen. Nicholas said the tour is also an operational tour aimed at resolving issues.
