Army abandons widows, refuses to pay late husbands’ benefits

Widows whose husbands died in active service have raised the alarm over their late husbands unpaid benefits.
An eye witness was reliably told by widows whose husbands have died while in active service abroad, those who battled Boko Haram and those whose lives were cut down by armed robbers.
In spite of the huge amount of money released by the army authorities totally over N200 million for this purpose, many widows are yet to be paid their late husband’s entitlements and owing to this unfortunate development, many widows having waited for years in vain have since remarried , left the barracks to pursue their lives elsewhere.
Some of the widows our correspondents spoke to narrated their ordeals while trying to claim their husbands’ benefits.
Our Abuja eye witness having listened to their complaints and plight sought the attention Nigeria’s army spokesperson on the matter via short message service, (SMS)
While responding Col Usman asked for the particulars of the affected widows to enable him find out what is on the ground.
He said, “Let me have the details of their complaints and particulars of the deceased husbands, I will find out and let you know. Give me details of their particulars; Army number, rank, name, unit and date of death. I want those details please. It is important to have it, otherwise I cannot communicate or say anything beyond this.”
