Arewa youths condemn media attack on Enugu government

The Arewa Youth Association, Enugu state has described as “annoying and embarrassing,” claims by some of their members that the State Government carried out demolition exercise at the New Artisan Market, Enugu.

One of their members, Hamza Buba, who spoke as a youth leader, had in a petition, which was made available to the media by Barr. Olu Omotayo, the coordinator of the Civil Rights Realization and Advancement Network, CRRAN, claimed that the government had commenced demolition of their shops despite a subsisting legal suit on the matter.

However, speaking to newsmen, the Arewa youths, led by the Enugu State Youth Leader, Alhaji Dandali Abubakar, the Secretary, Alhaji Aminu Saidu, debunked the demolition claims.

Abubakar stressed that his members were not at loggerheads with the state government.

He said “we were shocked to the marrow when we read a report, where Hamza Buba used the name of my office to issue a media statement. It is highly annoying and embarrassing.

“I said so because even as we speak, no form of demolition has been carried out by the government in that marker. So, I really don’t know what they intended to achieve with that publication. I also do not know why they decided to engage in such a mischievous publication using my office as the Youth leader.

“What happened was that government shut down the place over some issues and we have been in a process of dialogue with the government. We know clearly that we cannot fight government, especially when we have a government that is cooperative.
