Aregbesola and I Maybe in Same Party Tomorrow – Minister of Police
The Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, has urged electorates to devoid from violence, saying their lives were more important than the success of any politician.
He said this while speaking to newsmen in his hometown at Lagere, Ward 6 unit 8 in Ayedade Local Government.
According to him, there is no need for anyone to be desperate to the extend of losing their lives during the election.
He illustrated his reasons for non-violence with supporters, with today’s unity between Governor Aregbesola and former Governor Oyinlola after supporters have lost their lives on their behalf.
He said, “Whatever result we have today is the genuine votes from the mind of people in Osun State. There have not been harassment by security officers. Armed security officers are not close to the polling unit.
“Nobody should at any moment be used to for violence. People who died during Aregbesola and Oyinlola electoral matters died for nothing as the two individuals involved are now together. Aregbesola and I are leaders. He is a governor and I am a minister. So, why should leaders cause violence? We(Aregbesola and himself) may not be together (in the same party) today but we may be tomorrow.”
Also, a former minister of Youth Development, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, commended the use of card readers.
While speaking at Ayedade Local Governmenr, Ward 5 Unit 16 in Ago Ebira, where he voted, Olasunkanmi noted that there was massive turn-out.
To him, the use of card readers has curtailed rigging by political parties in the country.
He added, “It was in the morning that we had initial hiccups but the process improved as we went along. The process is free and fair. The use of card readers gave credibility to the process and I think it should be used in the next election. I recommend the usage of the cards and elimination of manual process.
“The voters increased during this election from about 156 witnessed during the governorship election to 221 voters accredited today. I will recommend this to all part of the country. With the card readers, the rigging style of APC is over.”
