APGA seeks overhaul of INEC

BY Sunday Nwakanma – Umuahia

One week after the conduct of the National Assembly election in Abia State,  the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has called for the sensitisation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) describing just concluded election in the state as  fraudulent.

Addressing newsmen in his office, the state chairman of the party, Rev Augustine Ehiemere  strongly expressed his disapproval of the election which he said “was characterized by high level fraud that casts serious aspersions on the competence and integrity of those that conducted the election”.

He highlighted the major concern of APGA to include “fraudulent actions that ranged from building of fake INEC registration data base, fraudulent purchase/seizure of PVCs belonging to innocent voters, corruption of many INEC staff like the EOs through the payment of monthly stipends with the intent of using them to rig election”.

“Just last Saturday, the PDP-led government despicably succeeded once again in unleashing psychological violence against millions suffering Abians by imposing, through crook and means, majority of the same people holding them down. Sadly, this was done through the criminal connivance of the majority of the highly compromised INEC officials in different parts of the state”, he further said.

He also called for an urgent prosecution of an INEC staff arrested with about ten thousand PVCs, who he said has since been linked to the state government.

Meanwhile, the Abia governortorial candidate of Accord Party, Barr Emeka Uwakolam has collapsed his governortorial ambition into the APGA by stepping down for APGA’s guber candidate, Dr. Alex Otti.
