APC vows to end Nnaji political dynasty in Enugu East

Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu state chapter, Dr. Ben Nwoye has said the party would put to an end the political dynasty of Nnaji family as well as the ruling People’s Democratic Party in the Enugu East council area in the coming November 4 Local Government election.
Nwoye stated this while speaking at a campaign rally at Nkwo Nike, the headquarters of Enugu East local government, stressing that a particular family has been producing the council chairman, House of Representatives, Senatorial positions as well as the traditional stool of the area, and vowed that the candidate of APC, Chief George Ukwu Nnamani would break the jinx.
It would be recalled that the senator representing Enugu East senatorial district, Sen. Gilbert Nnaji who is in his second term as senator of the zone was former council chairman of the area before going to the National Assembly as a two term house of representative member for Enugu East/ Isi-Uzo Federal constituency in the fourth republic.
Our correspondent also gathered that Sen. Nnaji installed his younger brother, Cornelius Nnaji on the council as chairman since 2011; the outgoing Cornelius Nnaji is currently serving as Transitional Committee Chairman of Enugu East Local Government
Area having served as two term executive chairman of the council.
However, the APC chairman stressed that one family and indeed, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had continued to dominate the council and other council areas in the state because no other party had ever challenged them by offering the people an alternative choice in previous council polls.
“We’re the ruling party; we are going to take over. It’s not a jinx thing par-se, they have never had a thing like this, this is the first time an alternative choice is being introduced. It’s just like what happened to PDP in 2015 in Nigeria. The same thing will happen to them in Enugu state.
“Not just Enugu East alne, the jinx you described is everywhere, but we have already broken it; the barrier is broken once you have an alternative.
“Recall that the last two elections, in 2011 and 2013, there were absolutely no contest for PDP. Everyone ran unopposed; the councillors ran unopposed in 248 wards. So to break the jinx, the first thing is to give people an alternative.
“As a political party and as a leader in APC in Enugu state, my job is done, it’s the choice of the people now to decide if they want few people to continue to rule over them,” he said.
Earlier in his speech, the APC candidate in Enugu East local government, Ukwu Nnamani urged the people to vote for him to bring real development to the area, saying that if the same people ruling the people over the years were doing well, he wouldn’t have come out to contest for the position.
