APC leaders plot Edo Speaker impeachment

Aggrieved lawmakers in the Edo State House of Assembly have begun plot to remove the Speaker, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto.

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), in Edo Central Senatorial District, weekend asked the lawmakers to fast track the Speaker’s impeachment process.

Leader of the group, Chief Francis Inegbeneki while addressing journalists in Benin alleged that Hon. Adjoto has run fowl of the party’s constitution by dragging the party to court for not giving him the ticket to the House of Representatives.

According to Chief Inegbeneki “Adjoto has been to the state House of Assembly three times on the platform of the party and instead of being grateful to the party he is now paying the party back with ingratitude.

“The party has done so much for Adjoto by making him the Speaker of the House after all the odds against him and what Adjoto has done amounts to disloyalty and should not be encouraged in the party.

“His impeachment has become comparative as it will serve as lesson to others who will want to take the same step.

“Members of the Party should learn to obey and respect the party constitution because the party is Supreme to individuals” he said.

Meanwhile, many of the lawmakers in the plot most of whom were elected on APC platform also failed to secure return tickets of the party to contest next year’s election.

However, the special Adviser on Media to the speaker, Jacob Afenkhena in a phone interview with Daily Times stated in clear terms that his principal had always carried members along, while noting that” there is no Impeachment move against Mr Speaker because he has always carried everybody along in the development of our dear state in collaboration with Governor Obaseki”.
