ANSG sets aside N905m for stadia development in communities

Anambra State government has set aside N905 million for the construction of stadia in every community in the state.

Out of the total amount, N5 million each would be given to the 181 communities in the state for construction or upgrading of two stadia.

Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this during an event to commemorate the 2019 International Youth Day, at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Gov Obiano explained that the sum of N5 million would be given to every community to construct two stadia in their communities.

His words: “The Executive Council of Anambra State resolved to build two mini-stadiums in every community in Anambra State to serve as modern training facilities for our youths.

“In doing this, it is our hope that the sporting talents of Anambra youths will find greater expression and in due season, we shall dominate the sports arena in Nigeria and across the world.

“We have already set aside the sum of N5m per community for these facilities.”

He stressed that the resolve was in line with his burning desire to revamp sports in Anambra, to engage students and youths to attain greater heights.

“I want to re-emphasise my faith in the Youths of Anambra State.

“History has shown that the youths of this great state have always risen to their full height to represent the best that Nigeria and Africa have to offer to the world.

“And I have no doubt that in the next five years or thereabout, some of the youths gathered here to celebrate today shall announce their arrival on the global stage with their own exceptional talents,” the governor added.
