Aniocha South PDP crisis deepens as members defect to Sheriff faction
The crisis bedeviling Aniocha South Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State may has deepened with Ali-Modu Sheriff led faction successfully wooing the aggrieved members to its side.
It was gathered that the aggrieved members had accused a member of House of Representatives, Mrs. Joan Mrakpor, representing Aniocha/Oshimili Constituency, of allegedly hijacking the party structure.
Since the internal wrangling within the party there had accusation and counter accusation against the federal lawmaker but Mrs. Mrakpor in a swift reaction on telephone described the allegations leveled against her as untrue.
However, in line with his promise to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party, the PDP Chairman in the local government, Abu Ndekwu, has appointed a 14-man reconciliatory committee.
The committee which is headed by the vice-chairman of the local government, Hon. Stephen Asikwili, was on Friday inaugurated with a mandate to identify the aggrieved members of the party, find out the cause of their grievances and appealed to them to come back to the party.
Also in the committee is Mr. Anthony Ogidi, as the committee secretary, Hon. Solomon Ojeah, member, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Chiedu Mekoma and the Executive Assistant to the Governor Political, Dr. Emmanuel Mafiana are also members among others.
Mr. Ndekwu who charged the committee to work tirelessly to address the grievances of the aggrieved members, noted that while the task is a daunting one, he repossess confidence on the committee members whom he said are men of proven integrity.
“We know that at the end of any election, there will always be aggrieved persons who may feel dissatisfied with the outcome. We cannot pretend we do not have such persons in the local government.
“It is these persons we are assigning you to go and fish out and reconcile them for the good of our party. And to enhance your work, we have directed all ward chairman and secretaries of our great party to liaise with the committee so that it will make your work easier.” Ndekwu said.
The committee chairman, Asikawili, while speaking on behalf of the committee assured the local government party chairman of their determination to work and return all those who have left the party.
“As far as we are concerned, we do not have a parallel PDP executive in the local government and I can assure you that we will work hard to reconcile all aggrieved members.
All we are asking from all party faithful is to support this course by cooperating with us to build a strong PDP in the local government as this will help the party grow stronger.
“However, let me also use this medium to appeal to stakeholders in this reconciliation move to assist the committee with logistics as it will go a long way in making our work easier” he said.
