‘Andoni section of Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road progressing satisfactorily’

The Andoni Section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road is progressing satisfactorily as the contractors have intensified work on the bridges and road leading to Ngo town, the headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area.

This was disclosed by the project engineer, Mr. Tunde Taiwo during a project evaluation visit to the site, weekend.

The engineer observed that the contractors were already constructing drainages from two spots to link the Asarama junction, adding that contractors had completed shore protection on Bridge Number Three and were currently working on the Shore Protection of Bridge Number Four.

Recall that on November 6, 2016, Governor Wike flagged off the completion of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity, with a promise to sustain the funding of the project untill completion.

The project engineer, noted that bush clearing had been done up to Ngo, the headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area, while removal of top soil was on-going.

He said: “I am standing here at Asarama junction. You can see the progress of work here. We are currently constructing the drainages that are linking the two spots. The drainages also link the main Andoni road.

“On this axis we are up to bridge number four. We have completed the asphalt up this spot. The binder course has been completed and shore protection has been done for bridge number three.

We are undertaking shore protection for bridge number four as well as launching the beams for bridge number nine,” he said.

The Project Engineer added the casting of slabs and other critical works for Bridge number nine would be completed in the course of the next two months.

He explained that stock-piling of sharp sand for sand-filling and drainage work up to Ngo town was on-going at the project site.

Principal of Community Secondary School, Asarama, Mr. Ogbulu Festus, praised Governor Wike for the extent of work done on the Andoni section of the Unity Road

He said that Governor Wike has attained considerable mileage through sustained funding and supervision.

Also speaking, Mr Gogo Tugwell, an indigene of Andoni Local Government Area, thanked Governor Wike for fulfilling his pledge of resuming construction work on the road and sustaining the funding of the project.

He noted that the Andoni people appreciated Governor Wike because they understood the cost of developing road infrastructure in the riverine area.
