Anambra: I won’t be party to consensus arrangement for PDP ticket – Ekwunife

By Tunde Opalana

One of the aspirants for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, Senator Uche Ekwunife has turned down suspected move by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to have a consensus flag bearer.

Ekwunife outrightly said it was too late to talk about a consensus arrangement, she said “I don’t see how a consensus arrangement will play out now considering the galaxy of men and a woman in the race.

“I am running to win, so I don’t see how consensus arrangement will work. It is a bit late, it should have come before now,” she added.

While insisting that she should be excluded from consensus arrangement, she promised to support anyone that emerge as PDP candidate in a free, fair and credible primary election.

As a long standing astute party member, she vowed not to dump PDP at the event of losing at the primary.

The Anambra Central senatorial district senator was at the PDP national secretariat on Tuesday to return her completed expression of interest and nomination forms.

The aspirant said her administration if given the mandate to be Anambra governor will be people oriented with focus on human capital development.

Ekwunife noted the security situation in the country will prompt her to target adequate security arrangement as the number one priority of her administration.

She said, “security is the primary responsibility of every government as enshrined in the 1999 constitution as altered. Any government that fails to provide sufficient security for it’s citizens to some extent should have a rethink.

“If elected governor, I will reform the security architecture. I will partner with the security agencies to make sure they are equipped with sophisticated weapons”.
