Anambra guber: Akwu rallies support for Obiano

As the Anambra State governorship election draws nearer, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), at the 2015 general election in Kogi State, Dr Pharooq Goodman Akwu has harped on the need for the leadership of the party to close ranks and eschew bitterness in the interest of the success of the party.

The Anambra State governorship election holds on November 18, this year.
The state is currently under the control of APGA and the governor, Dr. Willie Obiano is seeking a re-election.

Akwu, who is also the leader of APGA in Kogi State, in a statement at the weekend in Abuja, advised that it is pertinent for all hands to be on deck to make sure the party retakes and wins Anambra State back to back as there is nothing like the second best in an election.

He pointed out that Anambar State, under the able and dynamic leadership of Willie Obiano has what it takes to excel, warning that the ambition of some greedy members of the party must not be allowed to constitute an impediment for the success of the party.

Saying that he was sure that the people of the state know what they want, Akwu urged them not to make mistakes about their choice of governorship come Nov 18, this year.
He further admonished the people of the state not to risk electing any other person to truncate the free flow of democratic dividends they are presently enjoying.

According to the APGA governorship candidate, “I admonished the leadership of the party to close rank and eschew bitterness. All hands must be on deck to make sure the party retakes and wins Anambra back to back. There is nothing like the best second in an election, it’s like the game of Ludo and not chess where players can draw the match, in an election it’s a must win.
“Anambra, under the able and dynamic leadership of Willie Obiano has what it takes to excel, let the ambition of some greedy members not constitute an impediment for the success of the party, which is 50% sure .

“They should not risk electing any other person to truncate the free flow of democratic dividends they are presently enjoying, I will recommend Obiano for them even if he changes party at the eleventh hour, your best bet is willy, his records speaks in volumes, he is the Nigerian Prince of Projects,” he opined .
Akwu however frowned at what he called the activities of some party leaders, who have reduced the status of the party to an ethnic club, whereby some extractions will wake up from their slumber to emerge as APGA leader and begin to dish out instructions without recourse to due process.
He recalled that in the last one year about two attempts were made by some rebellious groups from the South East to dethrone the elected chairman without cogent reason(s).

According to him, “APGA is a political party duly registered by INEC and guided by constitution, it not a tribal forum whereby baton of leadership will exchange hands between kinsmen.”
Akwu noted with regrets that the party is staying too long on her knees and crawling like a lame duck which has refused to stand up and walk.

He reasoned that APGA, in hierarchy, should normally be the next to PDP before they were overtaken by APC, which was formed barely three 3 years ago.
