Anambra distributes drivers’ handbooks to curb road accidents

The Anambra State government has commenced a state-wide sensitisation exercise of all road users on the need to procure and study a driver’s handbook recently published by the State Ministry of Transport.
Addressing many youths empowered to carry out the sensitisation programme as well as market the handbook, the Commissioner for Road, Rail and Water Transport, Hon. Chinwe Nwebili, represented by Maazi Obiekwe Raphael Okoli, the Director of Administration in the ministry, explained that the essence of the programme is to minimise avoidable road carnages by enlightening the drivers who ply the roads, via the Driver’s Handbook.
According to her, “This handbook is a must have and is being solely marketed by Mustard @ Divine Technologies Limited and can be found in all strategic places; supermarkets, banks and so on”.
Nwaebili also informed that the sensitisation will run through the metropolis in Anambra state, after which enforcement of the purchase by all drivers in Anambra state will commence.
She used the medium to implore drivers to ensure they purchase the book willingly and not wait till they are forced to do it with penalty. She also revealed that in due time, the ministry will commence seminars that serve as platforms for breaking down the content of the handbook to road users, especially for those who might have reading difficulties.
Also, the Anambra state Vehicle Inspection Officer, Okeke Christopher, referred to the initiative as a laudable one.
